Just like math, many people are also afraid of writing, especially college papers and essays. In fact, a lot of students try their very best to avoid writing an academic paper as much as possible. One of the reasons behind this abhorrence for paper writing is the fear of making mistakes and being ridiculed by teachers, classmates or professors. However, students should realize that written reports, studies, and essays are required to help improve the analytical, research, and logical thinking skills of students. Besides, there are actually ways in which you can minimize the errors and mistakes in your college report or paper. Below are some of the tips on how you can improve your writing and avoid common mistakes in writing papers. The first rule is to finish your college papers ahead of time. Majority of students who submit substandard reports, essays, or theses are the ones who started making their project the night before the submission. If you have to come up with a 2,000-word paper, you naturally cannot expect to make an exceptional work in just two hours. So if you want to have high grades or you do not want to repeat the subject, you better start doing your homework as soon as it is assigned to you. You have to resist the urge to procrastinate. In reality, however, no matter how many times you hear people say that cramming is not helpful, a lot of students remain stubborn and still insist on cramming. What you can do, if you are in this situation, is to equip yourself with the right tools that will help you commit fewer mistakes when it comes to writing college papers. First, you need a guide on how to make a paper. If you do not have time to read a whole book, you can probably just surf the Internet and skim through free papers online to get some tips on style and guidelines on the structure of the paper you need to make. Next, you need a good dictionary and thesaurus so that you will be able to check the spelling, definition, and even synonyms of the words that you intend to use in your paper. Many word processing programs provide grammar and spell check functions so do not be afraid to use them while encoding your thoughts. Lastly, you may also want to have a style manual handy. This will guide you on the proper use of punctuations, prepositions, and even the proper way of writing footnotes and bibliographical entries. Believe it or not, professors check even the bibliography or reference section of your paper, so you need to be very meticulous. Before you print your college papers, it is often advisable to proofread your work. It would be best for you to edit the grammatical and typographical errors first. Sometimes even if you used a spell checker, there would still be some mistakes that were not auto-corrected. So you have to read your finished paper thoroughly before you submit it to your professor. Afterwards, you also need to check your style. Determine if you were able to provide concise, but accurate information. Wade Knoxvillesample college essays

40 years back, Don ed hardy blew off a Yale fine-art fellowship to chase the rogue art of tattoo, a undying and regularly taboo convention that captivated him as a boy in the Orange County beach town of Corona del Mar. By ten he was drawing cars and eagles on kids’ backs and arms with wet colored pencils and Maybelline eyeliner. At the San Francisco Art Institute in the early ’60s, Hardy mastered the demanding art of intaglio etching under the tutelage of the late Gordon Cook, a no-jive blue-collar guy who instilled in Hardy a love of craft, Asian art and the quiet power of Giorgio Morandi’s little still life pictures. Cook wasn’t happy when his gifted protege jumped into the socially murky waters of tattoo. But it worked out well for the brave Hardy boy, who blurred the supposed boundary between’high” and’low” art and carved a trail thru the worlds of art and commerce. He has drawn photographs on torsos, canvases and giant scrolls with equal conviction and coolness. A tattoo trailblazer and historian who expanded the palette and pictorial possibilities of custom-made body art, Hardy, who will talk about his far-ranging work at a free slide-show lecture at Mills College on Wed., is also a fertile lithographer, painter and etcher. His blazing pictures of devils, dragons, whiskered women and Buddhas

The benefit of a research paper is more than just having a ticket out of college. The mere process of writing it provides a training ground where one can develop the skills necessary for professional life. Life outside the university is more complex, so while inside, one should already prepare by facing the complexities of producing a respectable research paper. Furthermore, writing a research paper will allow one to learn the infallible truth that the world outside has its own rules and borders. The following Do’s and Dont’s will show why: Do think hard for a good topic. Only a few students will have a workable topic for their research paper at the beginning of their course. The majority will, most likely, remain oblivious of what they will write about until the formal start of their work. Talking to the professor works well for those who simply doesn’t have a clue of what could be a good topic. Reading books is also a good way to start. If one already has a general topic in mind, he should begin reading materials related to the field to narrow down his subject; after which, he should talk to his professor about it. Deciding a topic should be done at the earliest possible time to give ample time for research. Do not forget to have an engaging question. Usually a research paper answers why and how. Questions that begin with these two words are essential because they allow the author to make an argument. Why should we question the theory of evolution? Or How is it possible to alleviate poverty with education? Research papers that don’t have an argument asks boring questions. For example: Who started the civil war? An author who chooses questions that don’t begin with why and how will most likely produce a work that merely lists facts and dates. Do real research. Doing research involves more than just reading secondary books or taking information from the Internet. Real research, depending on the argument of the paper, means using primary sources like statistical data, foreign books, speeches or local newspapers. One can also arrange an interview with a prominent leader or a scientist, anyone he thinks can provide expert advice for his research paper. Do not fail to make an argument. A research paper is not a book report. One cannot just gather information from different sources, re-phrase paragraphs, and combine notes in order to produce an acceptable research paper. This kind of process will simply not work. An excellent research paper has all the evidence and data woven together to form a thought-provoking argument that attempts to answer the research question. Do write well. A well-written research paper presents all its powerful evidences and argument in a clear and coherent way. Footnotes and endnotes should accurately cite the sources, and tables and graphs should be properly presented in the body of the paper. An author should maintain a formal and serious tone if he wants his work to have an impact. Though one can formulate his own tips in writing a research paper, he can be sure that the rules written above are proven by many writers to be effective in producing an exceptional work. With great passion for writing, Jonathan Smith finds it fulfilling to do freelance writing although he already have a career in a marketing firm. He also work as a freelance editor for a custom research paper company. This 26-year-old’s enthusiasm in writing is deeply rooted in his parents, for his father was then a newspaper columnist and his mother a true-blooded novelist.

“And then what?” I find myself asking that question a lot lately as entrepreneurs and speakers approach me about getting a book done. We usually get to a point in the conversation where I ask the person what they want to happen after they get published. They’ll often say something like, “I really just want to get the book out there.” Okay, we can do that, I say. “And then what?” I ask the question because these days, especially where a business is concerned, you’re leaving a lot of opportunity

Writing a PhD dissertation is an extremely lengthy task. It requires and demands originality. You must discuss a problem which was not investigated earlier and therefore should be unique. In this article, I am going to discuss three common things that students should know when they start writing their dissertations. PhD Dissertation Related to Master’s Dissertation? Your PhD dissertation doesn’t have to be related to your Master’s dissertation at all. If you have written your dissertation on a particular topic in your Master’s program and would like to choose a completely different topic for your PhD dissertation then you may do that. It’s not a problem at all. You should actually aim to choose a different topic for your PhD dissertation because when you start your PhD and get ready to write your dissertation, you might not be interested in your Master’s dissertation topic. However your Master’s dissertation can be a starting point for your PhD dissertation but it is a significantly different and focused work which demands originality and uniqueness. Dissertation Topic: Write your PhD dissertation on a topic that you find interesting and in which you want to become an expert. Then try to slowly narrow it down. If there is a particular topic that can make you scream with happiness whenever it’s discussed, go for it. Also, choose a topic that will give you an edge when you are ready to apply for a job. Do consider the job market. So, talk to your advisor and professors about it. It Should Take As Long As It Should: There is no hard and fast rule that you should finish your PhD dissertation in 4 years or 5 years. However, some universities might ask to finish your degree within 8 years. If you are dedicated and focused then you should be able to finish writing it in 12 months. But if you are required to observe something for 2, 3 years or more then of course you can’t finish it in a year. Remember, you can’t afford to sacrifice the quality of your dissertation just to complete it early. If you have a definite plan and you stick to it then you will finish your dissertation much earlier than you think. Your PhD dissertation has to be new and should be about something never researched before. It is not an easy task but it’s not impossible either. Stay away from copy-pasting and stay in touch with your advisor and professors. Make a plan and stick to it, you will be done before you know it!! It has been said that readers are leaders. You can certainly dispute that, but it is a well-known fact. Having a reading attitude is an integral part of being successful. Reading has always been the cornerstone of my learning. The first time a book was read to me in grade school, I could not wait until I was able to read books myself. There were two main reasons why I wanted to learn how to read. When I was being read to, there was an emotional and mental entanglement for me. Let me explain what I mean. As I began to listen to the story about the three bears, I was instantly whisked away to a place in my mind (my imagination) where I became a character in the story. I felt the same feelings that the bears felt… When they felt hungry, I felt hungry. When they felt tired, I felt tired. And when they became surprised, I became surprised. The descriptive words and imagery used in the story made the story lifelike. Listening to the story was like being in a dreamlike state as in a daydream. Another thing that makes me want to read was the expectancy and curiosity factor in reading. No one likes being left to dry when listening to an interesting story. What I mean is that we want to get to the end of the story. When something stops the reading causes an expectancy or unfulfilled desire in the listener. For me two things raise these kinds feelings; an unanticipated interruption or a multi-part story. The best examples are commercials and soap operas, the bad thing of those is that they are multi-part. Soap operas are unending stories and have a dissonant air about them; they make me feel unsatisfied when the last scene for the day ends. The second most meaningful thing that made me want to read was being able to increase my knowledge of things. The day I got my first library card was the most liberating because books and stories increased my knowledge. I knew that having access to books would afford me the freedom to experience the feelings I felt when I was being read to. With the difference being that I can now read what and when I want. Books are knowledge banks and I yearn for business education. One time when I was in middle school I took a class to increase my reading speed and comprehension. It was the best move I could have ever made. Not only did I increase my comprehension and reading speed, my overall grades went up. In my freshman year in collage my philosophy professor gave us a required reading list. As I remember there were more than 16 books. I had never had to read that many books. So I went to work reading the books one by one. I eventually read them all, but little did I know that there was a better way to accomplish that task. Only after many years one of my business tutors told me the trick to being able to read many books at once and making money online in business. When I found out how simple it was, it made me feel really stupid. My tutor explained it to me and I never forgot what they said. They said that your brain is adaptable and when you force-feed it information, the brain remembers what you were able to do before. So, the next time you force-feed you brain even more information, your brain remembers that too. To make a long story short, to read and understand what you read, all you need to do is to increase the number of books you want to read and continually increase that number over time. Right now I can read more than eight books at a time and comprehend much of what I read. The trick is to slowly train your brain. A reading attitude is essential to learning. When writing a eulogy for a grandfather it can be very difficult to find the right words. A eulogy, in essence, is very different from other types of writing. You can’t grab a bunch of words out of thin air, or worse yet, wing it, calling it inspirational. Even the most accomplished writers can find that writing a eulogy is truly a challenge. This challenge is often due to the personal connections that an individual can have ? in this instance those close feelings one would have for a grandfather. Nonetheless, it is still true that the best person to write a eulogy would be someone close to the deceased. You may feel an exceptional amount of pressure attempting to create the insightful and respectful eulogy for your grandfather. You have to do it right as a form of respect for your grandfather. Yet, in the same sense, you want to show the insight you had regarding his life and his ways. While respect should be the central theme of your eulogy, you?ll want to also include as a sub theme the insights you and he shared. When you consider the words to use, the tone to adopt, and other details of the eulogy, always keep respect in mind. Here are some examples. Give a few examples of the dignity your grandfather displayed when he was alive. Even at difficult times, he had managed to choose the highest path and retain his dignity. Then weave in a point of insight, for example, how your grandfather shared with you his code of values and urged you to adopt these for yourself. For instance, perhaps your grandfather had been having health difficulties, yet he still managed to keep his promise to his grandchild - by still taking his grandson camping as promised. Obviously, this is just one example. There would be numerous examples that one could have used in a eulogy for a grandfather. Any example that will illustrate a grandfather’s dignity will serve you well. The tone of the speech when writing an eulogy for a grandfather is a key element to helping to bring across your respect and the insightfulness that you and your grandfather shared. In this instance, the concept is that you are delivering this speech at an occasion where the mood is solemn and somber, and though normally, one would try to convey a humorous story about the deceased to help with the overwhelming emotions, in this instance you would not. Therefore, avoid using any form of humor in your eulogy. Also, use words like remember him as, see him as or memory. Everyone in the audience knows your grandfather in some way. They are there at the memorial service to pay their last respects and hopefully leave with some fond memories of your grandfather. Share with them those memories you have that show his dignity, and show the insightfulness he had toward life, as well as the insightfulness you two shared with each other. Let them leave the service with nice memories about your grandfather. In summary, the majority of your work for the eulogy is done once you have identified those interesting stories about your grandfather. The next half of the battle, is all about getting those stories into words on the page and making sure they flow for a nice eulogy speech. How to express these stories in the proper tone is just as important. Don?t allow a story that is respectful to turn out as funny. To avoid these mistakes, download as many eulogy samples as you can for reference ? there are some very nice eulogies for a grandfather to review. You will find that you get very good ideas and language that will help you in developing your eulogy. Margaret Marquisi is a retired novelist and fulltime grandmother.
