Are you interested in exploring how to write articles by using the same content you’ve already posted to your blog? If you write articles and also frequently post to your blog to generate traffic you know how labor intensive that can be. Although these marketing strategies are extremely effective they can also be quite a strain on your time management skills. What if you could cut your writing efforts in half or to put it differently get twice the results from the same efforts? Well you can and we’re going to discuss here how to do just that. For anybody involved in article writing you know how challenging it can sometimes be to come up with new ideas for content. Posting to a blog on the other hand generally only requires an idea but not much detail. Let’s explore a simple 3 step process you can use to ‘transform’ your blog post into articles that will decrease your workload while increasing your desired results. Develop and Organize Your Topics You’ll first want to develop and organize topics upon which you can base your blog posts. Considering that a blog post constitutes a summary of a lengthier thought this shouldn’t be difficult. Obviously you’ll want the topics to be related in some form or fashion to your niche or blog theme. Compose Your Posts in Advance In an effort to focus better on your immediate task you may want to separate composing your blog posts from the time you use for writing articles. This should help you maintain a consistent train of thought making both tasks easier to accomplish. Instead of composing a blog post then writing an article you’ll want to put together a group of posts first. Once this is completed you can turn your attention to transforming these posts into articles. When writing an article as opposed to posting to a blog you are actually using completely different writing styles. By dividing these two tasks you now only need to focus on just one particular writing style. This in turn will increase the ease and efficiency of your overall writing process and save you time. Base Your Articles Upon Your Post Blog posts by design are short summations of a more detailed thought pattern. Upon these summations you can base a more in-depth article. By using the post for your writing ideas you now cut down on the overall time involved in the writing process itself. As you know every article starts with an outline and your blog post supplies that outline for you. So now you can see how to write articles easily if you also already have a blog that you post to on a regular basis. Even though both blogging and writing articles are excellent marketing strategies attempting to do both can put quite a strain on your time management skills. By further developing any writing ideas you can get from your own blog posts you’re essentially bypassing the additional time needed for more article research. By following this simple 3 step approach and streamlining the writing process you’re getting twice the results for little more than a one time effort! Once in a while I pick up Tristram Shandy and read a few pages at a time. Try I hard as I might, I cannot to save my soul stay with the book for a long period of time. Yet I know there’s much wisdom there as there’s foolishness in the world. Like eating ice cream or a good steak: let’s take human bites. Order isn’t the order of the day in this novel. The beginning you’ll find in the middle, after a million digressions which are really the narrator’s recollections and interactions with friends and relatives. I like the irreverent Parson Yorick, Uncle Toby, and the widow Wadam. If you are thinking about writing an auto-biography, read on: “I am this month one whole year older than I was this time twelve-month; and having got … almost into the middle of my fourth volume-and no farther than to my first day’s life-’tis demonstrative that I have three hundred and sixty-four days more life to write just now, than when I first set out … write as I will … I shall never overtake myself…. At the worst I shall have one day the start of my pen-and one day is enough for two volumes-and two volumes will be enough for one year.” That one can write volumes upon volumes and advance no further than our brand new spanking first day in this world is encouraging; encouraging because it proves that there’s no shortage of material when it comes to writing about our own wonderful days. What is one to say of an author that inserts a blank page in his novel, so that it is not only free from his own sins but also from others’ slanders: “Thrice happy book! Thou wilt have one page, at least, within thy covers, which MALICE will not blacken, and which IGNORANCE cannot misrepresent.” Just a few days ago I wrote on article on the use and abuse of adverbs. For some reason I titled the article “War on ‘Ly-Ending’ Adverbs. I thought I was being original, but the originality should go to Lawrence Sterne who had already used the war metaphor: “So that the life of a writer, whatever he might fancy to the contrary, was not so much a state of composition, as a state of warfare; and his probation in it, precisely that of any other man militant upon earth,-both depending alike, not half so much upon the degrees of his WIT-as his RESISTANCE.” Samuel Johnson got it all wrong: this novel will never go away and it will go on delighting readers for many generations to come. As a big believer in - and prolific user of — article marketing, following are a few things you should not do when you submit your article to article directories. Note: I want to say up front that there are many more rules and guidelines than I can possibly list here. But, these are some common ones that can slow down your article submission process. 4 Things to Avoid that Can Help You Speed Up the Article Marketing Submission Process 1. Links in the Body of the Article: Some article directories let you put links in the body of the article, some don’t. If you manually submit your articles, it can be a pain to constantly figure out which directory allows what, revising your article to fit each directory’s guidelines and/or reading through an extensive list of guidelines to figure out where you went wrong (in cases where they don’t tell you what you did wrong). To avoid all of this, don’t put any links in the body of your article. That’s what the resource box is for anyway. 2. Bold Tags Around Links: Some article directories won’t let you highlight (ie, bold) a link - even if it is in the resource box. The reason you might be tempted to bold a link is because sometimes the color of your link is so similar to the other text, that it barely stands out. The whole purpose of providing links in articles is to get visitors to click through to your site. Some article directories bold links for you, others underline them and some will have it show up as a different color. But, it’s up to each directory how they make your links stand out, and you’re probably going to have to just live with it. Again, if you’re looking to speed up your article submission, don’t do anything to your link (eg, bold it, ital it, underline it, etc.). DO however, include it. At least search engines will recognize it as a backlink when it gets published. 3. Link to PLR Sites: Many article directories don’t accept articles with links that go to a PLR site. If you don’t know what a PLR site is, you probably don’t have to worry about this. As a brief overview for those who want to know, PLR stands for Private Label Rights content. It is content that is sold to more than one party - and many article directories don’t like to promote this. There are pros and cons to PLR content, but that’s a subject for another article. 4. Dead/Inactive Links: If you use a link in the body of your article or in the resource box, make sure it’s a live link. Many article directories won’t publish articles that have dead and/or inactive links. This can slow you down if you pre-write promotional content for article directories with the intent of linking to a longer version on your site. So when planning your writing schedule, make sure to leave enough time to write both pieces. Money blinds. It’s as simple as that. Aspiring authors ask about the money issue all the time, in varying forms, (How much does it cost to publish? How much will I get paid in royalties?, etc.) but they can’t see beyond that issue to think about the thing that will truly decide the money question. And here it is: What Do You Want From Your Book? That is the real question! Once you are clear about what you want out of the publishing process, you can decide what route would be the most satisfying-and profitable-for you. When it comes right down it it, you can spend as much or as little as you want on your book. But how much are you willing to spend to get what you want? When you aren’t clear, you can make poor decisions that won’t line up with your goals. For instance, many authors have a goal of making a lot of money, but they won’t consider self publishing. The fact is that unless you can immediately sell on the level of an Oprah’s Book Club selection or a James Patterson or a Dan Brown, it’s going to take a very long time before your royalties add up to much. When you self publish you take on risk, but you stand to gain much more because you get to keep all the profits (unless your agreement with the publishing company you use is a royalties-based one). Another strong reason to self publish: you can use your first book to build your platform for a bigger deal with a traditional publishing house in the future. Again, you can choose the self publishing deal that’s right for you. A print on demand company such as Xlibris charges just $500 for a basic package where you can get your book produced and copies made as they are ordered-so no inventory. Of course, when you pay more, you get more: better design, distribution services, maybe even some marketing help. (This is not an endorsement of Xlibris, but I’m using this company as an example. To learn more about self publishing companies I recommend you read “The Fine Print of Self-Publishing” by Mark Levine.) The Traditional Road If your dreams of authorship include larger audiences and the literary status that comes of being published by one of the many arms of Random House, Warner or Simon & Schuster, that’s fine-just know that this route isn’t exactly free either. No, you don’t have to pay a traditional publishing house and yes, they do everything for you (design, distribution, some advertising and marketing), but these days a writer is expected to spend some money out of his or her own pocket to promote the book. Many writers are even putting the amount they’ve set aside in their book proposals. If you’re serious about marketing your book, you’ll need to set aside at least $10,000. That amount can go as high as $30,000 depending on the amount of travel and other advertising you intend to use. Smart Money, Dumb Money Once you understand what you want out of your book, you’ll not only know how much you’re willing to spend, you’ll also know better how to spend it. You can spend it smart or you can spend it dumb. Many writers spend it dumbly because they don’t know what they want. If you’re spending money on educating yourself about publishing, improving your writing skills, hiring a good editor or book consultant, and marketing that will help you reach your specific, targeted reader, that’s all smart money. You will get more out of those dollars than if you had never spent it at all. You are investing in your writing career. But if you spend money because someone told you this is “the only way you’ll ever get this book published” (and you haven’t researched any other ways), or buy advertising simply because it’s where other books are advertised, or go to writer’s conferences with no clear plan of what you want out of them, or pay agents “reader fees”, or pay editors whose work you don’t know or whose references you haven’t checked, that’s dumb money. You’ll put those dollars out there and see little or no return. So I guess the bad news is publishing isn’t free. The good news is you have a choice as to how much you spend and where you spend it. Be an educated consumer as well as an educated-and talented-writer. You’ll find that to have a book published in the way you want it published is still, in the end, priceless. © 2008 Sophfronia Scott Sophfronia Scott is Executive Editor of The Done For You Writing & Publishing Company. The thought of being pregnant may give you a feeling of elation or it may fill you with dread. Either way, if you truly are pregnant, most women want to know that information as soon as possible. Because if you are pregnant, it means that for better or worse, your life is about to change. So what are the early symptoms of a pregnancy? How can a woman tell early on if she’s pregnant? Pregnancy symptoms differ from woman to woman. Some women experience symptoms of pregnancy within as little time as a week of conception. Others experience no pregnancy symptoms at all until they begin to show the “baby bump.” Still others may experience different pregnancy symptoms when pregnant with different children. If you experience some of the very early pregnancy symptoms listed below and believe that you may be pregnant, you should do a home pregnancy test. If you are still in doubt, arrange with your doctor or pregnancy help clinic to have a pregnancy test. The reason why this is important is that if you are pregnant and have bad lifestyle habits like smoking, drinking, or even taking prescription drugs - you could be inadvertently harming the developing fetus in your body. Here are 5 common symptoms that might indicate pregnancy: 1. You just missed your normal menstrual period. This is number one on the list of indicators that are a warning sign that you may be pregnant. It’s true that just because you missed a period does not necessarily mean that you’re pregnant. There are many other reasons that could cause you to miss a period, such as - fasting, extreme amounts of exercising, prescribed or non-prescribed medications, eating disorders, chronic illnesses, and many more. Nevertheless, if your menstrual period is normally pretty consistent and like clockwork, and it doesn’t appear on schedule - this is a red flag and you should consider taking a pregnancy test. 2. Your breasts have become amazingly sensitive. Tender or swollen breasts sometimes occur just before a period. But these all also signs that conception has taken place and that you could be pregnant. If your breast are swollen beyond normal this is a sign that the body is preparing itself to produce milk. Many women report that they discovered they were pregnant when their breasts became so sensitive that even the slightest brush against them hurts. Others described it as a tingling sensation 3. Heightened sensitivity to smells. When a woman is in the early stages of pregnancy, she may notice that she is becoming hypersensitive to smells of all types - but especially foods. aromas - foods and others. In fact, you may become so hypersensitive to the smell of certain foods that they cause an involuntary gag reflex or bring about a feeling of nausea. You may also find yourself having an aversion to what were formerly your favorite foods, because of the smell. 4. Excessive bloating. Bloating can be an indication that you’re pregnant. The problem is hormones. When conception occurs, the hormone progesterone floods your system. As the increased progesterone envelopes your body it slows down your digestive processes and leads to gas and bloating. 5. Dizziness. Are you all of a sudden having periods of dizziness? Once conception takes place, the developing embryo will need food. This food will be drawn from your body. Specifically, it will use the blood sugar from your body as fuel to grow. If you aren’t eating enough, this can lead to your feeling faint because of low blood sugar. Any or all of these symptoms does not mean that you are pregnant. Each of them could be caused by other factors as well. But they are all symptoms that are common in women that have become newly pregnant. One of the biggest problem facing writers at some point is writer’s block. The inability to write and come up with ideas for writing can be very frustrating for writers and it can affect their performance in a big way. There are a number of reasons for writer’s block which includes, stress, poor physical and mental health, anxiety, significant changes in lifestyle. Actually, almost anything can cause writer’s block and for most people overcoming this problem is the hard part. However, writer’s block is not something that writers have to be scared of because there are ways of overcoming this problem. Since there is no one definite cause for writer’s block, what we can do is condition ourselves to work in certain situations where writer’s block occurs most often. Here are some tips and suggestions on how one can overcome writer’s block. The first thing you can do for is to work with a fixed writing schedule. Draw out a timetable for writing, it could be a daily, weekly and even a monthly table. Stick to that schedule even though you can’t come up with anything to write because writing will become easier once your mind and body gets used to the schedule that you prepared. Don’t force yourself to come up with ideas. The more you force yourself to come up with ideas and topics the more confused you get. If you have a number of ideas all jumbled together, just start writing and let the ideas flow, you can fix and edit your work after the writing process. Rest and relaxation is very important. One reason why people experience writer’s block is because they’ve exhausted their ideas and that their brains are all burned out. So take the time to relax, do recreational activities and let your brain rest, you’ll find that it’s easier to write with a well rested head.
