Most that is good in life comes from men’s ability to make their fellows share their thoughts and feelings. But it is not always an easy thing to make others see how we feel or think. The young child is called an infant, a word that means unable to speak. Half his miseries arise from his inability to communicate his notions. Men are but children of a larger growth, and much of their misery results from inability to tell what they think or feel. In a sense the case is worse for the man than for the child. The child makes gestures and grimaces to help his meaning out, but the grown man has to communicate by letters and other compositions. Both in English writing and speaking there are many special laws that must be observed if there is to be real communication. The special laws of spoken language are not so numerous as those of written language. Written language has to be much more careful than spoken; the writer has no chance of correcting himself on the spot if not understood. All writing consists of sentences that may be defined as series of words so arranged that they express a thought. Sentences are the basis of written and spoken language. Words do not make sentences unless they are arranged in accordance with the rules of grammar, logic, or common sense. Nevertheless knowledge of how to communicate by written words is a very great help in communicating orally. The art of communicating by means of written English words is called English composition, or rhetoric. A matter of prime importance to each man is that, in business or in society, he should be able to say or write exactly what he means. A businessman may lose money by failing to make himself clearly understood; misunderstandings and quarrels arise between friends because some one has failed to write just what he meant; a man is liable to be taken for a boor if he abuses the English language. Writing is a trade in which every educated man, woman, and child should be skilled. Writing is a trade, which any one can master if he goes about it in the right way. It is true that writing skill is often the only trade of some people like the poets, novelists, newspaper reporters and editors. These might be called specialists in writing, and writing is their main occupation and way of making a living. But writing skill is a universal trade and it is necessary for every person to know it to a certain extent. A person will never regret the time he spends in perfecting his instrument of expression. He should work steadily toward the point where he may come to have an abiding love for that which is lucid and beautiful in expression by words. No matter how practical the life he plans to lead, the power of writing down his ideas in good English, in a way that will leave no doubt as to what he meant and how earnestly he meant it, will always profit him. The Rosetta Key, William Dietrich, 2008, ISBN 9780061239557 Set in the eastern Mediterranean of 1799, this is the story of gambler and adventurer Ethan Gage. At the end of the previous book, he found himself on a British ship heading for the Holy Land. He agrees to help the British slow down, or stop, Napoleon Bonaparte’s coming invasion (the British don’t give him a choice). In the meantime, he continues to look for the Book of Thoth, an ancient scroll of great power that Moses supposedly stole from Egypt, and brought to Jerusalem. Gage is an American and protege of Benjamin Franklin, so he knows something about electricity. He puts his knowledge to use more than once, including during a major French siege of the city of Acre (present-day Lebanon). Gage switches sides between the French and British, more than once, and not by choice. He cheats death more than once, mostly because there are enough people who hear that Gage is looking for an ancient scroll and automatically think “gold and treasure.” Throughout much of the book, Gage has a big hole in his heart. At the end of the previous book, he watched Astiza, his Egyptian lover, fall from a hot-air balloon into the Nile River, in the clutches of Count Alessandro Silano. They are presumed dead, but Gage has to know for sure. In this story are also Jewish mysticism, the Knights Templar, the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, and enough action and narrow escapes to satisfy anyone. Here is an excellent piece of writing. For those who like their thrillers to be historically accurate and swashbuckling, look no further. This will keep the reader very entertained. 1- You need a main character (protagonist). He should have a well-developed personality and be interesting. This usually comes about as he/she confides in someone or something. An animal, God, a friend or a talisman could be the confident. Example: “Am I forever condemned to ask your opinion about my choice of companions? After all, you are a dragon. What do you know about friendship between humans?” 2- Lesser characters are those that help the protagonist fulfill his/her role by become his/her stepping stones or his/her obstacle. Example: “I told her to leave and never bother you again,” Nestor announced proudly. “What?” cried Ramon worriedly. “Why did you do that? I need her counsel.” “I was just trying to help you.” “Now what am I to do?” “You said you didn’t want to see her again,” he countered. “I didn’t meant it… You … you’re an idiot.” 3- The bad character (antagonist) is the one that helps the protagonist progress or stops his/her progress by testing his limits. Example: “I like you and see no reason to waste a specimen like you,” the demon started. “You have shown me brains and guts. I admire that in my enemies. If you just let go of your ideals, I’ll make you Lord of the land and all its treasures will be yours.” “You can’t buy me,” retorted Sinan, shaking the chains that held him to the wall. “I’ll never give in to you. “I’m patient,” the demon smiled crookedly. “Everyone has a price… I just have to find yours.” 4- The narrator is the one who helps the reader understand where, what, and why the characters are doing something or reacting in a particular fashion. Example: Now, that is what happens to the universe when you put a greedy king and an unscrupulous queen together. The planets that happen to be subject to them pay the price. 5- Scenery is what shows us where our characters are. It could be a place, space, a season or the imagination of the character. Example: In my mind’s eye I can still see the verdure of the forest split by the mist of the blue rivers that dotted the mountainside. That is a great start, now go and happy writings to you… For more on writing visit .annadelc.com. Anna del C. Dye Author of “The Silent Warrior Trilogy” .annadelc.com
When it comes to ed hardy clothing, it is hard for us to ignore its designers who have established their reputation all over the world, One is Don Christian Louboutin. He is named as America contemporary godfather of tattoo, Another is Christian Audigier, often referred as “king of jeans”, was once the designer of some famous brands, such as Diesel, Levi’s, etc. It is undeniable that the two masters cooperation has bringing marvelous sparkles to the fashion world, Yet, in my sight, the negative influences of their designs embodied in the following parts also deserve our attention: Above all, the young people should wear the ed hardy that could let them impress others as energetic and positive, But coogi, both the baseball cap embroidered tattoo as well as totem and the clothes that take use of embroidery, washing, splash-ink, integrating skulls, eagle anchor, daimon and other tattoo patterns, All of them will give others a sense of decadence and degradation. What’s more, as many critics ever put it: Christian Louboutin shirts just jumble up patterns which are overly sexy and aggressive. Indeed, the benevolent see the benevolence and the wise see the wisdom. The above are some of my personal feeling of Affliction. Therefore, you can hold your own view, Perhaps, you feel that Christian Audigier is most suitable for you. Then, it is nothing important for you to choose it.
Failure to spell-out exercises in numbered steps writing good exercises is an art. When you have a clear image of an exercise, it is easy to feel that the elements are self-explanatory, and that actually labeling them Step 1, Step 2, etc. would be redundant. But it is not redundant, it is a necessity. Generally, an exercise teaches readers a new ability they did not have before. Or fine-tunes one they already possess, but aren’t making the best use of. Both situations intimidate readers. Most people are certain they have unusual difficulty learning and will get things wrong. They can literally panic when they find advice or tips that haven’t been broken down into numbered steps. They immediately become confused and trip themselves up trying to think of every possible interpretation of what you’ve written. In all these cases, they are more likely to give up than to give your techniques a try. But there is no guesswork when you format your exercises in the form of numbered steps. Using them relieves the reader’s feelings of intimidation. Plus, since the exercise has been divided into small, easy sections, readers become more confident that they can do it. The result is that readers are far more likely to give your exercises a try than the brush-off. In short, do not just write down your exercises in the form of general advice. Take for example, the following exercise for coining dramatic, colorful “sell” phrases. Here’s what not to do: “Write down what you want to say in your own words. Rephrase what you have written to give it as positive a spin as possible. Using what you have just written as inspiration, dream up four or five other positive ways you might formulate your point. Go over everything you have written, including your first, rough try at what you wanted to say. Underline, or put a check mark next to, the words you think have the most power. Try putting the words you have underlined together in different creative combinations. Write down the results. Dan has been writing articles for nearly 4 years. Yes, I’ve read about the apparent ‘death of Adsense’ and my inbox has been stuffed with claims and counter claims about the value of this product or that strategy. . But that is not the reason. You see, I am a writer. I love nothing more than to research and write material on the area of my passion. In fact I have devoted my life to that very thing. Other than a bit of housework and meal preparation in support of my hardworking life- partner, my time is spent online researching and writing my own material. I am very proud of the material I have produced and offer in the form of articles and e-books on my website. Once I have attracted a visitor to my site, why on earth would I want them to suddenly leave and go who knows where? At least if they clicked on an affiliate link I have something of an advantage for two reasons: (a) I have chosen where the visitor will go when they leave my site and (b) I could receive some income if they purchase the product or service on the site to which I am an affiliate. With Adsense, the most likely place my hard-earned visitor would end up would be my direct competitor! That’s like owning a Pizza restaurant and advertising the local Chicken Take-Away in my establishment. Yet, that is in effect, the type of thing I would be doing if I displayed Adsense on my site. Yes, it might make sense to Google to provide contextual advertising. It would probably even make sense to the advertiser (otherwise why would they do it). But it makes no sense to me. I write because I believe I have something worthwhile to say. I believe, in all honesty, there are a lot of people who would benefit from hearing what I have to say. . I also believe that laborers are worthy of their hire, so yes, I offer some of my material for sale. I put my material before people. If they like what they see, if it fills a need in their life at that particular moment in time, they may buy. If they don’t like what they see, that’s okay. But the last thing I want is for them to rush in and out of my ‘store’ because their attention has been grabbed by my competitor who I allow to stand in the entrance to my place of business for the purpose of diverting my customers across to his ‘store’. Will they come back to me? I don’t really know, but I sure as heck would rather it didn’t happen in the first place. On the other hand, I recognize that I am something of a crusader. My site is not there specifically for me to make money, although the income is appreciated. If I was only interested in making money (and it seems, if you believe everything you read you either make millions or you make zero when you are in business on the Internet. There is, apparently, no middle ground) then I could provide the mega-store approach and offer you anything and everything your heart desires. I heard recently of one entrepreneur who has 75000 websites! Apparently the content on those sites is so unappealing that he makes tens of thousands of dollars each month from Adsense alone. To that I say ‘Great. I trust he enjoys his money’ I choose to journey along a road apparently less travelled. What I lose out on in the area of financial gain, I certainly make up for in satisfaction of achieving my life’s goal and a career path that I honestly love. There’s not much more I could ask for.
